The Hyde Civil Asset Forfeiture Bill is Moving!

Rep. Henry Hyde makes real moves toward forfeiture reform

Rep. Henry Hyde (R-IL) is once again supporting real forfeiture reform. When the House of Representatives reconvenes on Monday, April 20, the House Republican Conference will meet to decide on the Republican agenda for the rest of this Congressional term.  (The Republican Conference is made up of all Republican House members.)  Congressman Hyde will be advocating a manager's amendment to H.R. 1965, which would essentially replace it with the text of H.R. 1835, with minor modifications.  It is important that the Republican Conference be aware of the grassroots support for real forfeiture reform.  Therefore, we urge all FEAR supporters, especially those in Republican districts, to contact their representative in Congress and express their support for Congressman Hyde's manager's amendment to H.R. 1965.  GOP members whom we especially need to target are Speaker Newt Gingrich (GA), Rules Commitee Chairman Gerald Solomon (NY), and Jennifer Dunn (WA) and Deborah Pryce (OH), both of whom are officers of the Republican Conference.  If one of these four people is your representative, contacting them would be especially beneficial.
