Feds raid suburban drug repackager

September 16, 2003

BY ART GOLAB Staff Reporter

A day after Gov. Blagojevich took the first step toward buying inexpensive
medications in Canada for more than 200,000 state workers and retirees,
federal agents on Monday raided a south suburban business that has been
importing drugs and repackaging them for sale in the United States.

Seized in the raid on Alliance Wholesale Distributors in Richton Park were
an assortment of drugs with foreign labels, including 1,500 90-tablet
bottles of the anti-cholesterol medication Lipitor.

It was the second raid on Alliance, following an earlier seizure July 9.
However no criminal charges have been filed and a complaint by the U.S.
Attorney's office only seeks forfeiture of the drugs.
