[And you thought this was about fighting terrorists. Maybe -- or maybe it
is about "generating more revenue". Leon]
The stack of confiscated goods from Kentucky's airports is piling up, so
the state is turning to the eBay online auction site to help clear out some
items and generate a little extra revenue.
Airport security at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport,
the Louisville International Airport, and the Blue Grass Airport in
Lexington have confiscated numerous Leatherman and Gerber multi-purpose
tools; Buck, Gerber and Case pocket knives; and Swiss Army knives from
passengers boarding flights, according to a news release.
The knives and multi-purpose tools had been available for purchase by
eligible city, county and state agencies and certain nonprofit
organizations such as the Boy Scouts. But the supply is starting to stack
up, so the Kentucky Finance and Administration Cabinet's Division of
Surplus Property plans to offer the goods to the public. Individuals
wishing to purchase used state property online may visit www.ebay.com and
search for seller "kysurplus."
"While we will still have items available for those eligible to participate
in the surplus property program, we wanted to put some out on eBay to
generate more revenue," Chuck Geveden, director of the division, said in
the release.
