City Does Good Samaritan Dirt

Andrew Markos figured city sanitation officials would thank him for buying
his own $38,000 street-sweeping rig to spiff up grimy streets around his
College Point waste transfer station.
But grime fighting is a thankless job.
On Friday, the city confiscated his Caterpillar 236 tractor, slapping
Markos, the manager of Crown Container Corp., with a $20,000 fine for
leaving a tiny pile of residue on a street he'd just cleaned free of
charge.
