Feds plan to seize suspected drug house
By Evan Lehmann

FITCHBURG -- The U.S. Department of Justice has begun legal proceedings to
seize a house in Fitchburg allegedly used by drug dealers to sell heroin
and cocaine, according to federal and local officials.

U.S. Attorney Michael J. Sullivan, whose office is based in Boston, said in
a press release that 116 Marshall St. "has been used to facilitate the
distribution of heroin in the Fitchburg area since at least 1996."

The home's owner, Javier P. Ruberte, 50, and four other individuals were
arrested in April and charged with drug violations when police raided the
residence, the press release said.

...

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristina E. Barclay said the case is a civil
forfeiture proceeding and is in Massachusetts District Federal Court in
Boston.

Asked how long the case could take, she said, "It all depends on what
happens ... the civil process can take years."

Cronin said he expects the house to be seized in less than two years.
