Breeder wants her animals returned
Sandra Reynolds was acquitted of violating the state Wildlife Code but the
state still has her exotic pets.
By Kathleen Brady Shea
Inquirer Staff Writer
For exotic animal breeder Sandra Reynolds, an acquittal on alleged
violations of the state Wildlife Code should have been grounds for
celebration.
But what's a party without the guests of honor - in this case a wallaby,
some lemurs, a kinkajou, and various other wild creatures?
Reynolds, who received 33 citations from the Game Commission on Oct. 20,
was found not guilty last week of illegally selling and possessing exotic
animals, but her animals remain in state custody.
"It's not right," she said. "I'm very worried that the animals are going to
be mistreated or killed."
Dante the wallaby, one of 13 animals the Game Commission seized from
Reynolds' London Grove Township home on March 21, died in July at the
Penn's Creek shelter where the Game Commission was keeping the animals.
Jerry Feaser, press secretary for the Game Commission, said he believed the
remaining animals were in good health, and he attributed Dante's death to a
"preexisting condition" - a conclusion Reynolds denies.
Feaser said animals were not automatically returned when a judge issues a
not-guilty ruling. "All I can say is that we're reviewing the case," Feaser
said.
. . .
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<,,
Sure. Well, actually I don't really understand. I get many letters from
victims of state seizure that ask for help on this very problem -- they win
their case but the cops refuse to return the property. How can this be and
what can be done about it? By what authority do the cops come to the
conclusion, "All I can say is that we're reviewing the case," when the
judge has made his/her decision?
Hopefully some of you on the list can enlighten the rest of us.
Particularly those of you wearing the badge.
