Dear Editor,

Every citizen wants their police to be in shape but drug forfeiture money is supposed to go to fighting the drug war not to fighting the battle of the "bulge."

I'm of the opinion that forfeiture money should not go back to the police because it promotes a skewed police policy.

Drug forfeiture money makes drug criminals with the most money or property at the top of police pursuit; while more important crimes like rape, child abuse, pedophiles, assault, murder, and home invasion get moved to the bottom of police investigative work; since they won't produce these bounties of forfeiture monies.

These forfeiture monies should go back to the communities where the drug money came from; not to police.  Drug forfeiture monies should be returned back to the community in the form of drug treatment programs, counseling or after school youth programs.

Doesn't it make more sense to spend the money to reduce drug use and drug crime in the making, than to provide luxury goods and benefits for the police.

Sincerely,

Kim Hanna
