In the past couple of weeks it seems the news media has awakened from
its long hibernation on the forfeiture issue.
Two television shows (one of them a network show, the other a local news
station) have contacted FEAR looking for victims. If you would like to
get some publicity and have not sent us your forfeiture victim story, do
that now. The best way to do it is to fill out the forfeiture victim
questionnaire on the FEAR website. Victims should always contact their
lawyers before making the decision to go public with their stories. If
you have sent us your story, but want to make sure your story is
considered for the publicity, email me again.
The stories have to be current, and have to be forfeiture victims not
charged with a crime. Cases where the property was seized in the last
few months are best. These t.v. reporters were most interested in
forfeiture traps on the highway or airports, where people were stopped
while traveling out of state, and searched and had money or cars seized,
but were not charged with any crime. Other victim stories that
illustrate current abuses of forfeiture are also needed.
Forfeiture lawyers: if you have a case that fits the above criteria, and
you would like some publicity, please email me.
