Experience in Forfeiture Defense and Related Subjects |
I was an Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) for 29 years before retiring in March 2011. For the last seven years I handled both criminal and civil forfeiture cases on behalf of the United State in the trial and appellate courts, and the last four years I was the Asset Forfeiture Coordinator for the Eastern District of California. I had training in all aspects of forfeiture including money laundering forfeitures, drug-related forfeitures, mail and wire fraud-related forfeitures, and tobacco forfeitures. I was also a federal prosecutor for many years. I also handled civil and criminal forfeiture cases from 1988-2004 under the federal statutes in effect before the enactment of the current forfeiture law enacted in 2000 as part of the Civil Asset Forfeiture Reform Act (“CAFRA”). |
